Fishing Palm Beach, FL
This
is a brief synopsis of fishing from Palm Beach, Florida. We truly have a twelve
month season and great variety of both fish and fishing methods. I would love
to customize your trip to your wishes so give me a call or drop me an email.
Sailfish
Caught 12 months a year with the best fishing generally in winter and early
spring. Cold fronts in November and December generally signal the beginning of
the sailfish migration. Early on, November – December trolling with rigged
ballyhoo generally gets good results. As soon as the migration gets started the
action quickly switches to live bait fishing with goggle eyes being the preferred
bait and kite fishing the preferred method. When conditions are right, multiple
hook-ups are common with double digit days not uncommon.
Dolphin
(mahi-mahi)
Also caught in every calendar month with your best chance being spring and
early summer. Trolling is the preferred method here. Strip bates with various
skirts along with rigged ballyhoo make up the spread. Dolphin are often caught
on live bait this regularly produces the larger fish. When conditions are right,
Dolphin can often be caught by chunking with various baits often resulting in
a full fish box.
Wahoo
Also
caught all season long generally best around the full moons. Caught both on live
bait and trolling. Prefer baits trolled deeper and further from boat. Planner
and wire line rods rigged with sea witches and larger strip baits are often the
ticket. A center "shot-gun" rig often accounts for a big one. A specific
method of Wahoo fishing is high speed trolling and can account for impressive
catches. In this method lures are trolled both deep and on the surface at speed
in excess of twelve knots.
Kingfish
Another one of our full time residents. Caught both trolling and live boat
fishing. Late winter through summer are best with live bait taking the nod in
spring but as the summer approaches switching to trolling produces the best results.
Tuna
Although caught on our close in grounds, especially Blackfin Tuna. If it is
tuna you want then long range is the way to go. We run our long range trips from
March – September and good catches of Yellowfin and Blackfin are made. These
trips also produce Blue and White Marlin along with Dolphin and Wahoo. Trolling
artificials is the best method with sight fishing and radar chasing making this
a truly team effort.
